This is an extreme crop of a juvenile white bellied eagle made with EOS R10 and RF-S 55-210mm lens. The lens is surprisingly good for a budget model and the new Adobe Denoise AI helps with the extreme crop. This image has only half of one megapixel.

I have been exploring the capability of the new Denoise AI in Adobe Camera Raw and discovering more good things. This post is about dark shadow detail.

Australian magpies are in some respects quite difficult to photograph well. They are easy to approach. Indeed a bit of food will have them lining up at the kitchen window. They relate well to humans.

The problem is their feathers, some of which are very bright white, while most are very dense black.  Correct exposure for the bright whites will often see the black feathers underexposed and needing to be pulled up in post processing. This in turn boosts grain and blurs detail in the dark feathers.

It appears that Adobe Denoise AI is particularly effective at managing noise and detail in these difficult dark tones.

I post here the same photo processed the old way to best result in Camera Raw then in a workflow which includes Adobe Denoise AI. The result with the new AI process is markedly better with much less noise and clearer detail, particularly in the dark feathers.
