GR2

The Ricoh GR2 is a very capable little camera which can output remarkably sharp clear photos.

It has also well designed with good controls making it enjoyable to use.

But I noticed recently that while out and about with the GR2  I accidentally bumped the [+/-] bar several times.  This did not often result in changing the exposure as the bar has to be pressed once to make it active then again to make an adjustment.  But I did have to press the [Menu/OK] button to deactivate the [+/-] function on several occasions.

This post describes a simple addition to the camera to prevent this accidental activation without impairing normal function.

I cut a length of matchstick to size, glued it just to the left of the [+/-] bar then shaped it with a sharp knife and painted it black.

You can see it in the pictures.

I have now been using the camera for several days with the matchstick addition.

It does what I wanted it to do.

I no longer accidentally bump the [+/-] bar.

The matchstick gives my right thumb haptic feedback as to its exact location on the camera.

I did wonder at first if the addition would be secure enough as it is glued to the leatherette covering not to the metal body shell of the camera.

However there have been no problems thus far.
